Public Computers and Wi-Fi

All Libraries provide public computer access.  You can access the Internet, email, social media and Microsoft Office.

Wi-Fi network facilities are available at Kalamunda, Forrestfield, High Wycombe and Lesmurdie Libraries.

Library members can access the public computers free of charge for up to 2 hours per day.

Non library members will be charged $2.50 per hour.

For your convenience, computers can be pre-booked by phoning any of our libraries.

Public Computers

Each of our libraries have Public Computers available for use. It is recommended that you call the library to reserve a computer as there are a limited number available at each branch. Otherwise they are issued on a first come first served basis.

The computers have the following programs available and run on a Windows operating system.

  • Internet Access (via Internet Explorer or Chrome)
  • MS Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Publisher
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Ancestry Library Edition

Terms & Conditions of Use

Access

  • Bookings may be made in half hour blocks for up to one hour per day with a maximum of two hours per day
  • Bookings are for the specific computer allocated
  • Booking a computer is acknowledgement and acceptance of conditions outlined above
  • Usage cost is $2.50 per hour or part thereof. Library members can have 2 hours of free usage per day
  • Users at Forrestfield Library need a valid library membership number and PIN to access the public computers
  • Children under 12 must be supervised by a responsible adult. Restriction of a child's access to any content is the responsibility of the child's parent / guardian

Printing

  • A4 printing costs are 20c for black and white and $1.00 for colour. Please note the machine does not give change. Please see staff if you require the correct change for the machine
  • Please use print preview to check the length and layout of the document. You are required to pay for all pages printed

Assistance

  • Bookings are made on a self-serve basis. Staff will provide assistance depending on availability
  • Staff are unable to fill in forms, write documents or emails, edit work, or provide advice on personal or legal matters

Content

  • The Library has no control over information on the Internet, and cannot guarantee accuracy or usefulness
  • Restriction of a child’s access to any or all information is the responsibility of the child’s parent/guardian
  • Customers are not to access material deemed illegal, objectionable, offensive, violent, pornographic or material to be used for criminal activity
  • Downloading large quantities of data is not permitted e.g. movies, computer programs etc
  • Please respect copyright and licensing laws. If unsure please ask a staff member
  • Please use headphones/earphones if you are accessing audio content

Connection

  • The library cannot guarantee the computers will not disconnect during use. If this occurs, information entered on the computer will be lost
  • The Library cannot guarantee any site will be available for access
  • Customers must only use software programs already loaded on to the computer

You will need to confirm that you accept the Terms and Conditions on your device before you can connect to the Wi-Fi.

How do I connect to the Wi-Fi?

Each device (Laptop, Apple or Android) may connect differently. Below is a basic guide on how to connect to the WiFi service. Please be aware that the WiFi service is limited.

  • Open your WiFi/Network Connection to search for networks available. This is generally under Settings or the Control Panel or via the Notification Area Network Icon depending on the device
  • Select one of the networks named: “Kalamunda Library-Public WiFi” “FField Library-Public WiFi” or “HW Library Public WiFi”
  • Please wait for the Terms and Conditions page to load
  • Read and agree to the Terms and Conditions
  • Upon agreeing to the Terms and Conditions your browser will be launched.

As the world continues to become more connected and with technology so readily available for all ages, it is imperative you are ‘Cyber Aware’ – being able to interact safely on the Internet.
