Friends Group volunteers can tailor their contribution to suit their availability, ability and interests. However, it is a condition of registration that a Friends Group will only undertake activities which help protect and enhance our natural areas. Suitable activities include:
The Environmental Friends Group Officer can meet Friends Groups on site to discuss appropriate tasks and techniques and help plan activities. It is important these activities are undertaken as per the advice and direction of the City’s Environmental team.
There are a variety of extremely active local environmental community groups supported by the City. They include individual Friends Groups who assist the City in the maintenance of City-vested Local Natural Areas, and larger Catchment Groups that look after particular landscapes and tend to cross vestings and tenure. The City of Kalamunda takes prides in recognising the enormous value our committed volunteers contribute to the conservation and maintenance of our natural environment. The City has developed the Friends Group Manual as a basis for supporting Friends Group volunteers. This manual contains all the information you need to be a Friends Group volunteer.
Through the City’s Environment Friends Group Officer, over 47 individual Friends Groups are supported to provide bushland care to City-vested Local Natural Areas. Most groups are concerned with a parcel of bushland located near their home. If you are interested in the care of a bushland reserve and wish to join a Friends Group, please contact the City's Environmental Education and Engagement Group Officer on 9257 9854.
