The City of Kalamunda is a local authority with a population of 60,000 located approximately a 35-minute drive from the Perth CBD. The City provides the opportunity to work in a diverse environment from rural, natural bushland to highly developed residential, commercial and industrial areas.
Kalamunda has a bus station a short walk from the City of Kalamunda Administration Centre on Railway Road, Kalamunda, in addition to bus stops near the City’s Administration Centre and Operations Centre.
Parking is free and there are sufficient available bays for each employee at each location.
The City of Kalamunda offers competitive salaries under Enterprise Bargaining Agreements and negotiated contracts. Salaries are reviewed annually. Annual step increments are also available for most positions.
Employees can arrange for salary sacrifice arrangements, such as; superannuation contributions, novated leases, health funds, uniform, social club and/or union fees. Possible benefits include tax savings.
Employees receive the superannuation guarantee. As from 1 July 2022 the superannuation guarantee rate is 10.5%. This rate is due to increase a further 0.5% each year until it reaches 12% in 2025. These increases have been legislated by the Australian Government. All employees have freedom of choice over the complying fund that their superannuation contributions are paid to, providing this choice is not changed more regularly than annually.
The City’s default fund is currently Aware Super.
The City provides employees with the added benefit of an Employer Super Co-contribution Scheme. Employer co-contribution is an incentive provided by the City to encourage employees to put aside extra for their retirement. This means, a percentage of what employees contribute to their super by salary sacrifice before tax, could be matched by the City.
The City offers eligible employees the opportunity to finance a new or used vehicle through a novated lease. Repayments are made through pre-tax salary through salary sacrifice. Vehicle expenses can also be bundled into the lease.
The City provides eligible employees uniform clothing and personal protective equipment. Some roles where a Corporate Uniform is required, the City will contribute a set amount towards the cost of the uniform. For other roles, wearing a uniform is not compulsory, smart business attire can be worn and casual clothing on Fridays.
Every new employee of the City is required to serve a probationary period, during which their suitability for the role is reviewed. Annual Performance Reviews are also undertaken to provide and receive feedback, implement career planning and set performance objectives.

Membership is free. eMembership allows access to an extensive range of eResources, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and films. Full time employees are entitled to 22 annual leave days per year. A pro rata allocation applies to part time staff. Staff employed under the City’s EBAs receive an additional 17.5% leave loading on any annual leave accumulated. Staff on negotiated contracts have different conditions.
As a staff member you are entitled to take personal leave, which includes sick and carers leave.
Compassionate leave (also known as Bereavement Leave) can be taken when a member of an employee’s immediate family or household dies, or contracts or develops a life-threatening illness or injury. All employees are entitled to 5 days paid compassionate leave.
Cultural and Religious Leave provides unpaid leave for legitimate cultural and religious purposes to meet with an employee’s customs, traditional law and participation in ceremonial activities.
All employees are entitled to 5 days paid Family and Domestic Violence Leave each year and 5 days unpaid. The Leave is for the purpose of doing something to deal with the impact of family and domestic violence when it’s impractical to do so outside their ordinary hours of work.
Employees, including casual employees, can take Community Service Leave for certain activities such as voluntary emergency management activities (unpaid) and jury duty (paid leave).
Full time and part time employees are entitled to 12 months of Parental Leave when a child is born or adopted, if they have worked for at least 12 months with the City.
There is other leave available such as Long Service Leave, which can be carried over from continuous service at other Local Governments in Western Australia, public holidays, options to purchase additional leave and deferred salary schemes.
