Earlier in 2021 the Zig Zag operated as a shared path – Pedestrian and Cycling Friendly Zone, as a part of a temporary trial to seek the communities feedback regarding its future use.
Following the considerable feedback gathered from the community, the City of Kalamunda will reopen the Zig Zag Scenic Drive to motor vehicles during the day from 1 July 2021 for a 12-month trial.
Explaining Council’s decision, Mayor Margaret Thomas said following extensive community consultation about the Zig Zag Scenic Drive’s future and a significant period where the road had been closed to vehicles, there is a good understanding
of the impacts of the one-way road being always closed and being always open to vehicles.
Moving forward with the 12-month trial the City has developed a shared path schedule for when the Scenic Drive will be available to motor vehicles.
The Zig Zag Scenic Drive is an one-way shared path drive (from the top to the bottom), with stopping only permitted in designated areas.
