City To Host ‘Know the Signs: Identifying Red Flags in Relationships’ Event to Combat Domestic Violence
The City of Kalamunda is proud to announce the upcoming community event, Know the Signs: Identifying Red Flags in Relationships,” scheduled for 9 October 2024, at the Woodlupine Family Community Centre, and 16 October 2024, at the Kalamunda Performing Arts Centre.
These events are a critical initiative to raise awareness about domestic violence and equip community with the knowledge to identify and respond to signs of toxic relationships.
The event will feature a series of insightful presentations by leading experts in the field of domestic violence prevention. Dr. Lorraine Sheridan, a distinguished forensic psychologist, will deliver a keynote address on recognising early red flags in relationships. Her extensive research on stalking, family violence, and offender profiling has been instrumental in shaping effective strategies to combat domestic violence.
“Domestic violence is a complex issue that affects too many in our community,” said Mayor Margaret Thomas. “This event is a vital step in our commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment for all our residents. By raising awareness and educating the community, we can help individuals recognise the warning signs of abuse and take action to prevent it. Tackling domestic violence requires a whole-of-community approach, and I encourage everyone to attend.”
In addition to Dr. Sheridan’s presentation, the event will also feature martial-arts trained empowerment specialist Briana Harris who uses her expertise to teach how to build courage and strength. Security professional Murray McKechnie who runs Kalamunda Kickboxing and Martial Arts is the event’s MC.
Tickets for the event are free but must be booked in advance. The City of Kalamunda is committed to ensuring that this important information is accessible to all and encourages residents to participate in this crucial conversation.
