City Celebrates Young Local Hero Jai Zappacosta
The City of Kalamunda has recognised the outstanding community contributions of Jai Zappacosta, presenting him with the Local Hero Award during Maida Vale Primary School’s Book Awards Assembly on 6 December 2024.
Jai received the award for his remarkable leadership in organising a sausage sizzle and fundraising game to repair vandalised football posts at the school. The initiative showcased his dedication and ability to make a positive impact on the local community.
Mayor Margaret Thomas presented the award to Jai in a surprise announcement during the assembly. “Jai exemplifies the spirit of a Local Hero,” said Mayor Thomas. “His selflessness and initiative are an inspiration to us all. We are thrilled to celebrate his contributions and look forward to seeing him continue to make a difference.”
As part of his recognition, Jai was presented with a YAK Pack (Youth Advisory Kit) and invited to join the City’s Youth Advisory Council, offering him a platform to further develop his leadership skills and continue his work within the community.
Jai’s mother, Bianca, expressed her pride, saying, “We are so proud of Jai and the initiative he showed in speaking up and taking action for something that mattered to him. He has demonstrated qualities beyond his years”.
The City of Kalamunda congratulates Jai on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to supporting his journey as a young leader in the community.
