A Creative Spark: Mark Guthrie Workshop Brings Disney Magic to Kalamunda Library

24 April 2025 12:00 AM

On a sunny April afternoon at Kalamunda Library, visitors were treated to something truly special – a creative workshop led by acclaimed illustrator Mark Guthrie.

Best known for his comic work in The West Australian and his picture books, Mark also has a rich history in animation, having worked with Walt Disney Studios on titles like Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan in Neverland, The Lion King 2, and Aladdin and the King of Thieves.

In this all-ages workshop, Mark generously shared behind-the-scenes stories and original sketches, walking participants through how to build illustrated characters and even create their own picture books. Guests filled out personalised workbooks, drew their own characters, and soaked up insights from an artist whose experience spans comics, books, and animation.

Feedback from attendees was glowing:

“Very animated (ha, ha) instructor. Really enjoyed it.”
“Wonderful, insightful, beneficial.”
“Low pressure class with great engagement and positive feedback.”

This event was such a success, we’re already in talks to bring Mark back for more – with dedicated sessions for both adults and children next time.

We’re so proud to host events that inspire creativity, bring people together, and spark imagination across generations.

Stay tuned for more events at Kalamunda Library – we can’t wait to see what you’ll create next!
