The program was established in response to concerns raised by the community and local businesses, with partner agencies coming together to implement a proactive and intelligence-led approach focused on prevention, early intervention and enforcement where required.

Key initiatives to date include school patrols to identify truancy, engagement with local businesses regarding retail theft and anti-social behaviour, increased police patrols throughout the town centre and targeted action against repeat offenders.

Importantly, the program has also strengthened engagement with local young people, helping connect them with appropriate support through schools, families and community networks, while ensuring accountability where offending has occurred.

Since commencing in July 2026, the program has delivered encouraging results, with a notable reduction in anti-social behaviour and theft based on year-on-year comparisons for the same period.

Mayor Margaret Thomas highlighted the importance of community collaboration, stating “Addressing anti-social behaviour is about more than enforcement alone. To create lasting change, we need to connect with young people through the networks that matter most to them, including their families, schools and local community.

“When we work together, we can help young people feel supported, make positive choices and strengthen our community for everyone”.

Senior Sergeant Brad Robinson, Officer in Charge of Forrestfield Police Station, said the results demonstrate the value of local agencies working towards a common goal.

"This initiative has shown what can be achieved when local partners work together, understand the issues affecting the community and coordinate their efforts. Through a combination of prevention, engagement, reassurance patrols and targeted enforcement, we have seen positive outcomes for local businesses, residents and visitors.

"The success of the program reflects a shared commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming town centre while supporting young people to make positive choices."

Following the program's success, regular high-visibility police patrols will continue throughout the KADS precinct, Central Mall, Kalamunda Central, Haynes Street and Railway Road during peak times to provide reassurance to businesses, residents and visitors.

Forrestfield Police are also exploring opportunities to strengthen CCTV coverage and improve real-time communication between local police and City Rangers to support an even more coordinated response to emerging issues.

The success of the program demonstrates the power of local partnerships in building safer and more connected communities. By combining prevention, support, engagement and enforcement, partner agencies are not only reducing harmful behaviour but also helping young people feel connected, supported and equipped to make positive choices for their future.
