Know a Local Hero? Nominations Open for the 2027 Community Citizen of the Year Awards
The Community Citizen of the Year Awards give us the opportunity to celebrate the positive impact of individuals, groups and events who are engaged and committed to creating a strong inclusive and connected local community. Whether they are a nominee or recipient, we can all celebrate their outstanding contribution, because we’re all part of the story.
Recognising local heroes for more than 20 years, the Awards are made up of four categories:
- Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals over 16 years)
- Young Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 16-30 years)
- Senior Community Citizen of the Year (for individuals aged 65 years and over)
- Active Citizenship (for community groups or events)
Nominations can be made for contributions to education, health, fundraising, voluntary services, business, sports, arts, culture, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances community wellbeing, strengthens connections and helps create a place where everyone feels welcome and included. Mayor Margaret Thomas shared the importance in recognising of our local volunteers, stating “These awards are a chance to recognise those in our community who go above and beyond to help make the City of Kalamunda a welcoming, inclusive, connected, safe and beautiful place to live and work.”
“They don’t do it for reward or recognition; they do it because they care about the people and places that make up a community. They are the quiet achievers, the behind-the-scenes volunteers who generously give their time, skills and effort to strengthen connections, support others and help make our places welcoming and inclusive for all, and they deserve to be celebrated.”

City of Kalamunda recipients will be announced at an awards ceremony in January 2027.
