Mosquitos

Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance; they are carriers of serious diseases such as Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus, and, in some regions, dengue fever and malaria. Their bites cause itching and irritation, and large numbers can make outdoor areas unpleasant.

Controlling mosquitoes starts with reducing their breeding sites. They lay eggs in stagnant water, so it is important to regularly empty or cover containers, birdbaths, gutters, and any items that collect water. Keeping lawns and gardens well maintained also reduces resting places for adult mosquitoes.

Personal protection is also important. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants when outdoors, and install screens on windows and doors to prevent mosquitoes from entering buildings. For severe infestations, professional pest control treatments may be necessary.
