Great Eastern Highway Bypass Interchanges Project

Project Status : In Progress
Estimated Completion Date : approx. 2024
Location : Kalamunda Road just west of the intersection of Abernethy Road.

Upgrading two major interchanges at Roe Highway and Abernethy Road, extending Lloyd St and constructing a new bridge over Helena River.

Works

Construction Commences (December 2021):
The Greater Connect Alliance has commenced various site investigation works to determine ground conditions for the new bridges and roads to be constructed as part of the Great Eastern Highway Bypass Interchanges Project.

As part of these investigations, overnight works will be undertaken in the road verge along Kalamunda Road, just west of the intersection of Abernethy Road.

There will be reduced speed limits and lane closures from 13 to 21 December 2021.  Overnight site investigation works, and lane closures will occur between 7pm and 5am each weeknight during this time.

Works will include:
  • Geotechnical drilling to obtain ground water, rock and soil samples.
  • Potholing using a vacuum truck to dig into the ground to identify and confirm locations of underground services and utilities.
Each of these activities will involve project personnel wearing high-visibility clothing operating machinery and
equipment on Kalamunda Road.

Traffic management

To ensure the safety of workers, the section of Kalamunda Road adjacent to the works zone will be reduced to a single lane reverse flow. Traffic management personnel will direct traffic through the area. Signage will be in place to alert motorists to changed traffic conditions and reduced speed limits of 40km/h will apply. Please be patient and follow site signage during the project works.

Noise

Nearby residents may notice an increase in noise from machinery and equipment. However, every effort will be made to minimise construction impacts as much as possible.
