City seeks feedback on draft concept for Central Mall streetscape enhancements

Central Mall is set to be upgraded as part of the proposed streetscape improvements under the Kalamunda Activity Centre Plan. At the Special Council Meeting on Tuesday 30 June 2020, Council adopted the 2020/2021 Budget, which included a $2.4 million commitment for upgrades in the Kalamunda Town Centre, which incorporates detail designs of a new streetscape for Central Mall.

Commencement of the project will make the start of the 10-year vision for the Kalamunda Town Centre coming to life.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “This has been an incredible journey of consulting with the community to develop the Activity Centre Plan we have today, and it is a big achievement for everyone involved to see our vision starting to come to fruition”.

“The vision of the plan is for Central Mall to be transformed into the heart of Kalamunda’s night time economy, delivering an intimate and vibrant urban experience that supports both day and night-time activities and acts as a counterpoint to the more traditional and heritage spaces of the town centre.”

The City has engaged consultancy PLACE Laboratory to undertake the design and documentation for the Central Mall upgrade in the Kalamunda Town Centre.

“The design has been developed, following all of the community input to date and now the City is now seeking feedback from landowners, businesses and residents on the draft concept plan. I encourage all members of the community to have their say.”
