Stage One Stirk Park Upgrades Shovel Ready
The City of Kalamunda needs State and Federal Government funding support to greenlight the stage one of the Stirk Park Master Plan that will deliver a vibrant, inclusive, outdoor space for the whole community.
City Mayor Margaret Thomas said “the Stirk Park Master Plan, adopted by Council in 2018, provided a framework for the community-endorsed changes that will ensure the much-loved community asset is redeveloped for future generations to enjoy.
“Stirk Park is rich in history and is often thought of as the cultural hub of the community,” Cr Thomas said.
“Our plan has always been to upgrade the facilities and amenities as championed by the community to include a youth precinct, accessible nature playground, new pathways, skate park, universal toilets and security lighting while maintaining the park’s charm.”
“We have worked with the community on the concept design of the playground. The City has also recently completed consultation with the local youth and community to develop a concept design for the skate park. Once this concept is complete the stage one Stirk Park upgrades will be totally shovel ready, with the final project cost, anticipated to be approximately $2.7m.”
The City’s plan includes the relocation of the Canning Road skate park to Stirk Park to better connect young people with the Kalamunda Town Centre.
“As a premier recreational destination, Stirk Park deserves a significant overhaul that delivers creative play equipment sympathetic to the communities needs to ensure the delivery of amazing experiences for all ages and abilities to enjoy,” Cr Thomas said.
“The City will also likely target future grant funding opportunities through Lotterywest and the State Governments Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund”.
Projects such as this have significant long term community benefit, whilst also creating local jobs during the construction phase so we are eager to commence as soon as possible.”
The project will also have a broader impact on helping to activate the Kalamunda Town Centre.
This project has been identified as a key priority to aid in the communities recovery from the COVID 19 pandemic, as it will enable our community to reestablish family and social connections.
“The City is always happy to speak with local residents and businesses keen to support the park upgrade to help move the timeline forward. We know that the community has been asking for this project to commence for some time, and now the significant body of master planning and concept design has been undertaken to make sure the project is a success.”
