With strong community support, the City requires State and Federal Government funding support to greenlight the improvements.

City Mayor Margaret Thomas said around 1,300 current members used the Reserve’s facilities for soccer, baseball, softball, teeball, tennis, archery, netball and cricket, along with thousands of local community members, families, friends and visitors each year.

“It’s vital we continue to look for ways to improve both facilities and access across our community to ensure everyone has the opportunity to prioritise their health,” Cr Thomas said.

“Projects like this can go a long way in stimulating the local economy as we start to plan for a COVID-19 Recovery. This recovery will help grass roots sports, reconnect with their members and provide an opportunity for the recommencement of family and social connections.

The Maida Vale Reserve enhancements include the upgrade of site power and connection to sewer, sports floodlighting upgrade, upgrades to the Norm Sadler Pavilion including new unisex change room, storage and toilets, improved baseball infrastructure, replacement of the archery pavilion, access improvements and expanded car parking, netball courts upgraded to multipurpose courts, fitness trail, new playground and skate park and realignment of the current tennis courts.

“The upgrade of the site power and stage one of the sports floodlighting is now shovel ready,” Cr Thomas said.

“Council is committed to providing our residents with the highest quality sport and recreation facilities and we anticipate this will be another fantastic facility to be enjoyed by both a range of local clubs and the wider community.”
