The Strategic Community Plan (the Plan) is the highest-level document that provides an overarching outline of the City’s priorities, aspirations and expectations over a 10-year period.

Under the Local Government Act 1995, local governments are required to undertake a major consultative review every four years and a minor review (desktop review) every two years. The purpose of the review is to track the City’s progress against the Plan, identify areas for improvement and plan the priorities for the next four years.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said “As a community, we have made so much progress and reflecting back on the last major review in 2016, I am so proud of what has been achieved to date”.

“In 2016, feedback showed that residents wanted to see the City play a key role in advocacy, in order to deliver projects that will benefit the community. Over the last four years we have seen successful advocacy projects in a number of roads and infrastructure areas with upgrades to Tonkin Highway confirmed and the Roe/ Kalamunda Interchange under construction, along with long advocated improvements to public transport coming online with the High Wycombe Station project. We have seen projects such as the Ray Owen upgrade, Hale Road Woolworths Drive intersection and the new Community Centre currently under construction in Kalamunda receive state and federal funding, we have also seen progress with Masterplans for Scott Reserve, Maida Vale Reserve and Stirk Park”

“We have also seen a number of key strategies and plans developed to further develop the City as a vibrant, connected and sustainable place to live. Some key strategies include the Clean and Green: Environmental Strategy, Tourism Development Strategy, Reconciliation Action Plan, Arts Strategy, Local Housing Strategy and the Public Open Space Strategy”.

“We want to have conversations with as many people as possible in our community, so that we can identify our vision for what the City of Kalamunda could look like over the next ten years, our priorities over the next four years to help us achieve that vision”.

“I encourage everyone, whether you are a resident, working in the area or landowner, to take part in this significant review and have your say”.

Community consultation will form one part of the review, with detailed research and analysis also being undertaken to determine trends, issues and impacts.

The City will be hosting two community workshops and one online workshop to seek feedback from community members. The first workshop will be held on 23 September 2020 from 5pm to 7pm at Woodlupine Community Centre, 88 Hale Road Forrestfield. The second workshop will be held on 14 October 2020 from 5pm to 7pm at Zig Zag Cultural Centre Seminar Room, 50 Railway Road, Kalamunda. The online workshop will kick off on 23 October 2020 from 10am and will be hosted online via Microsoft Teams.
