Whoosh! an immersive work that puts children living with a disability at the centre of the action using all their senses to journey through space and back to Earth has travelled a full circle and returned home to the City of Kalamunda.

Historically conceived and developed in the heart of Kalamunda, at Kalamunda Primary School, this act has now toured around the country and featured at the Big Umbrella Festival in New York and The Artground  in Singapore.

Performing this week at the Kalamunda Performance Arts Centre, in collaboration with the Kalamunda Primary School, Whoosh asks children to ‘Hop on board their spaceship and get ready for blast off!’

The brain-child of Sensorium Theatre and produced by Performing Lines WA this child-friendly, small audience theatre was specifically designed to cater for children with multiple and complex needs and those on the autism spectrum.  Participants are invited to touch, taste, smell, hear and feel as they are included in the interactive storytelling experience.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “We are proud to have been the birth-place of this wonderful theatre initiative that celebrates inclusivity and provides opportunities for children with disability to access performance and the arts.”

“The City of Kalamunda is renowned for its high calibre artistic community and Sensorium Theatre is just another inspirational example of the innovation and creativity with its foundations here. We are excited to have them return.”

Whoosh! by Sensorium Theatre is produced by Performing Lines WA and is supported by: the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body; and the WA Government through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and Lotterywest. This production is made possible with the generous support of the Cassandra Gantner Foundation and the James Galvin Foundation.
