Construction of the new community hub at Jorgensen Park is progressing well and is on track for completion January 2021 and open to the public in March, so focus is shifting to the next milestone of commissioning public artwork for the venue.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said the aim was to create a piece of public art which expresses the area’s unique identity, welcomes people to Kalamunda and Noongar Country and celebrates wildlife as a vital resource for our community.

"We want this artwork to engage the local community and visitors while raising awareness of our region’s amazing people and places," Cr Thomas said.

Cr Thomas said submissions would be judged on expertise, relevant experience and capacity to adequately undertake the requirements outlined in the specification’s summary.

As part of the EOI process, the City will shortlist up to four artists/artist teams who will be invited to develop a full artistic concept.

The Kalamunda Community Centre is funded from the State Government of Western Australia ($3 Million), Lotterywest ($2.5 Million) and the Federal Government ($1 Million), with a $150,000 contribution from the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre.
