Save the Date - Plants for Residents Is Back!

30 March 2021 1:45 PM

The City of Kalamunda will give away more than 13,000 native plants on Saturday 29 May 2021 as part of its hugely popular Plants for Residents program.

This year’s event will run between 8am and 1pm in the green space adjacent to the Woodlupine Family and Community Centre, Forrestfield.

Online bookings will open at 12pm, Tuesday 4 May with residents required to confirm proof of residency when selecting their plants.

Using the booking system, eligible ratepayers can pre-select up to 15 plants per household, with a two-per-species limit. Collection times are split into one-hour slots to assist with traffic management and event flow.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said the annual program has been a huge success for many years with City ratepayers keen to take advantage of free plants for their gardens.

“Like previous years, residents will again be able to select from a variety of native ground covers, shrubs and trees that are water wise and will establish quickly,” Cr Thomas said.

“Plants for Residents is a great initiative that promotes biodiversity in residential areas by prioritising native flora that results in creating new homes for local wildlife.”

“To date, in the past 22 years of operation the City of Kalamunda has given away form than 220,000 plants that have been established in gardens throughout the City. We have also seen residents undertake verge enhancements and water wise gardens with their free plants.”

On collection day, City staff and plant experts from APACE will be on hand to offer advice on the care and maintenance of natives. When collecting plants, residents need to bring their own environmentally friendly collection container. We recommend bringing a box or a bag. Please also have some photo ID and current proof of residential address.
