The City of Kalamunda is set to celebrate NAIDOC Week with a vibrant program of events to take place across the City.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said this year’s theme, For our Elders, is an opportunity to recognise the important role Elders play in our communities.

“NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all of us to learn more about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth,” Cr Thomas said.

“This year, we acknowledge the prominent place of Elders in communities and families in providing their knowledge, guidance and experience to future generations.”

“I encourage everyone in our community to get involved in some of the wonderful events we have planned; to come together and learn more from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.”

Support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held at the City throughout the week. The program includes an opening event, workshops, story circles, an art exhibition, a sound session, a cultural walk and a Bibbulmun Track 25th Anniversary Celebration.

NAIDOC Week 2023 runs from Sunday 2 July to Sunday 9 July.
