With summer just around the corner, the City of Kalamunda is diving into a new education campaign to promote safety around private swimming pools.
The City of Kalamunda is proud to continue supporting safe and family-friendly communities, working closely with residents to ensure every pool and spa meets important safety standards.
The recent Building and Energy’s 2024–25 report on private swimming pool barrier inspections showed that around two-thirds of Western Australian local governments are currently up to date with their pool safety checks, and the City of Kalamunda is pleased to be among those maintaining strong compliance through our ongoing inspection program.
Mayor Margaret Thomas emphasised the importance of pool safety Swimming pools and spas are a popular feature in many homes across the hills, offering entertainment and relief during the warmer months.”
“Pool safety is a shared responsibility, and we’re grateful to residents who support our inspectors by providing timely access to their properties. By working together, our community helps keep every pool in Kalamunda safe, compliant, and secure for families to enjoy.”
The City conducts regular inspections of private swimming pool and spa barriers every four years, as required by state legislation. These checks are vital in preventing child drownings and ensuring that safety barriers remain secure and effective.
Building and Energy has encouraged homeowners across Western Australia to cooperate with inspections and stay proactive about maintaining compliant pool barriers.
If you own a pool or spa, remember that keeping your safety barrier in good condition not only meets legal requirements — it helps protect our loved ones and the wider community.
