City Libraries Switch to Virtual Services

07 April 2020 8:30 AM

The City of Kalamunda reminds residents while their physical doors are temporarily closed, the City’s libraries are ‘virtually’ open.

Current members can access eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines and video streaming from its eLibrary catalogue, accessible via the City’s website. To keep the City’s youngest members happy, Rhymetime and Storytime sessions are now available online!

City Mayor Margaret Thomas said there had been a marked increase in calls to City libraries across the last week regarding eMembership enquiries.

“We’ve also seen an increase in visits to our website and Facebook page,” Cr Thomas said. "With a large number of people practicing social distancing, the need for online resources has increased.”

Some of this interest comes from people such as parents looking for resources to help with their children’s education and entertainment and people trying to keep occupied in a positive way by getting lost in a book or learning how to do something new.

“We want to let the community know we’re still here for them and still trying to help them out,” Cr Thomas said. “We know how valuable our libraries are and that people need to have ongoing access so they know that they’re not alone out there and we’re all going through this together.

“This includes support for our customers who are home bound with our dedicated library team working hard to make sure our Books on Wheels delivery service continues to meet their needs.”

Members with a preference for hard copy books, can reserve items online and collect using contactless Reservation Collection at each library location. Members will be advised by phone or email that their reservation is ready for collection from the front of the library and scheduled times they can collect.

To return items, members are asked to use the return chutes available at all libraries. All returned items will be quarantined appropriately before being returned to the shelves.
