City of Kalamunda residents are being encouraged to support local business through a new Go Local First campaign, an initiative of the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia (COSBOA).

Sign thanking for shopping localThe recently launched campaign highlights the vital role of small businesses in our nation’s economic recovery from COVID-19 and in keeping local communities flourishing and asks people to stop and think about where they are spending.

The City has 4,375 local businesses (ABS, 2019) across a number of sectors from retail to accommodation to arts to technical services.

Margaret Thomas said the ongoing impact from the global pandemic has caused many local businesses to suffer.

“We are privileged to have many wonderful retail operators in our City who provide an amazing range of products and services to our locals however, the global pandemic has invariably taken a toll on their businesses,” Cr Thomas said.

“Now is the time for our residents to come together and show their support for local business.

“We want our local businesses to come out of the current situation and the only way this can happen is for our local residents to put their full support behind supporting and shopping local.”
