If approved by Main Roads WA (MRWA), the City will provide a further $138,000 towards the projects as part of the 2021/22 capital works program and deliver all projects within the same financial year.

The six locations and proposed upgrades

• Hale Road and Strelitzia Avenue Intersection - modify right turn arrow settings and line marking;
• Kalamunda Road, Gooseberry Hill Road and Hawtin Road Intersection - modify right turn arrow settings and line marking;
• Lesmurdie Road, Godwin Street to Grove Road - line marking, street lighting improvements and a new path on the north side;
• Railway Road and Elizabeth Street Intersection - new roundabout;
• Canning Road, Welshpool Road East to Glenisla Road - shoulder widening and sealing, removal of some roadside hazards and line marking treatments; and
• Strelitzia Avenue - improve line marking, improve the school crossing location, and upgrade road lighting.

Mayor Margaret Thomas said treatments for the six City locations were identified and evaluated using the MRWA Crash Analysis Reporting System, resulting in $2,261,000 of proposed projects that aim to address 53 crashes over the last five years.

“We monitor major crashes on a yearly basis to identify projects that meet the application criteria for the Black Spot program,” Cr Thomas said.
