The City successfully applied for a grant from the Commonwealth’s Road Safety Awareness and Enablers Fund to deliver tailored road safety messaging to the local community over a 12-month period, ending February 2022.
Why?
The City recorded 882 crashes on local roads in the five years ending December 2018. Sadly, there were 13 fatalities and 163 serious injuries.
Our traffic data shows around 30% of drivers drive over the speed limit, and the City receives many complaints of hooning and other road safety concerns.
Raise awareness to change behaviour
Long term, the City aims to reduce harm and trauma-related crashes on our local roads through supporting a shift in the way we address road safety challenges, in delivering messaging raising awareness of road safety.
How?
The intention of the program is to contribute to a safe and sustainable road transport system, and an educated community working towards zero fatal and serious injuries.
