Healthy Ageing Hot on Agenda
The City of Kalamunda has thrown it support behind a range of community activities and initiatives for Seniors Week 2021, with a strong focus on healthy Ageing.
The United Nations has declared 2021-2030 the Decade of Healthy Ageing. The Decade of Healthy Ageing is a chance for governments, civil society, international agencies, professionals, academia, the media, and the private sector to work together to improve the lives of older people, their families, and their communities.
Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “There is so much on during Seniors week, and throughout the year – it’s a great chance to get out and try something new. Catch up and meet with old friends – and make new ones too! Keeping physically and mentally active helps us all to age well. We have events on all throughout the City.”
The City of Kalamunda is running a series of free health and wellbeing activities for all seniors, as well as offering free appraisals for new Strength for Life members throughout the week. The City is also supporting several local Community organisations, with the provision of venues and sponsorship as a part of Seniors Week celebrations.
The Zig Zag Cultural Centre will host the inaugural Daring Range Seniors Hub Ageing Well Festival including Choir performances, workshops, guest speakers, art exhibition, free blood pressure monitoring and so much more on Friday 5th of November, there will also be a memory tea room at the Jack Healey Centre on the 9 November. If you help or care for someone with memory loss and would like to come along or find out more information, please contact the Hub on 0492 807 603 or email hello@drseniorshub.com.au
