Are you 11-18 years of age and looking to make a difference in your community? Look no further, Youth Action Kalamunda (YAK) is here!
If you are living, working, or studying in the City of Kalamunda, the YAK wants you to join their team of fiercely creative and passionate individuals who want to make a positive change in the community one step at a time.
The YAK is a group led by young people, for young people, who meet fortnightly to address issues of concern and topics of interest to better the community and engage the younger generation.
Mayor Margaret Thomas said, “By having a group of representatives and a distinct voice, it provides youth with the skills they need to be confident in speaking and lobbying for issues in society.”
“At each meeting, young people will learn skills that are relevant to project planning such as budgeting skills and flyer and promotional design.”
The primary YAK group meetings are held at Kalamunda SHS, and the YAK are in the process of expanding their meetings to create a Foothills group and a partnership with Kalamunda Education Support.
Benefits of joining the YAK include:
- Receiving a certificate after each event or program completed.
- Your time is counted towards Community Service hours.
- Receiving Letter of References to add to your resume.
- Special guest industry speakers.
- Opportunities to get involved in local government and politics.
