The City of Kalamunda is proud to announce its participation in a transformative initiative led by the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) to transition to Electric Vehicles (EVs). Alongside 21 other Local Governments, this commitment reflects the City's dedication to sustainability and innovative solutions for a greener future.

The City is part of an innovative project facilitated by WALGA, which has secured $7.68 million in funding to roll out 129 Battery Electric Vehicles across participating councils. This initiative, supported by $3.51 million from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and $1 million from the WA State Government, covers not only the procurement of EVs but also the development of charging infrastructure and energy upgrades.

"This project exemplifies the power of collaboration between Federal, State, and Local Governments, as well as WALGA. By pooling resources and expertise, we are not only reducing costs but also paving the way for a more sustainable future," said Mayor Margaret Thomas.

The City received a grant of $75,626.50 to cover installation costs and the purchase of chargers, complementing its own budget allocation of $96,000 for acquiring two Electric Passenger Vehicles to replace existing petrol vehicles. This initial investment underscores the City's commitment to sustainability and sets a precedent for future fleet transitions.

"We are proud to take this first step towards a more sustainable fleet," Cr Thomas added. “Through initiatives like these, we demonstrate our dedication to environmental stewardship and responsible resource management."
