Stirk Park gets storm water health upgrade

The City of Kalamunda is serious about protecting our precious waterways with the installation this month of a gross pollutant trap in Stirk Park. The trap, also known as a baffle box, will greatly improve the quality of storm water entering Stirk Park and the pond, and the public will be able to see it working through the see-through lid.

City to Investigate Solar Farm Potential

The City of Kalamunda will investigate the feasibility of local solar farms off the back of positive community feedback to its 2019 Environmental Sustainability Initiatives survey. Following Council endorsement of the idea, the City will now appoint a consultant to complete a feasibility study and report findings by mid-2020.

City’s Micro Bat Project To Help Reduce Mosquito Populations

The City of Kalamunda is encouraging residents and schools to participate in a habitat enhancement project to create homes for local micro bats that it is hoped will reduce local mosquito numbers.

City Opens Community Event Donation and Sponsorship Program

The 2020/2021 City of Kalamunda’s Community Event Donation and Sponsorship Program is now open, with grants of up to $20,000 available.

New Community Centre Construction Commences

The City of Kalamunda has welcomed the commencement of construction on the new $6.6 million Kalamunda Community Centre with a turning of the sod ceremony on 31 January 2020. Premier Mark McGowan joined with local MP Mathew Hughes, Mayor Margaret Thomas, Councillors, representatives from Lotterywest, Pindan, the Kalamunda Community Learning Centre and the reference group to mark the momentous occasion.

The impact on road users remains limited and is being minimised by the contractor (Georgiou Group) as far as possible. In the coming weeks, the community may notice some new activities close to residential areas. These include the continuing essential service relocation(s).

Funerals in Public Places

The City of Kalamunda wishes to consult with the community to seek feedback on the level of community support in holding funerals in public places; parks, reserves and open spaces. At this stage we are undertaking preliminary community engagement in order to develop a draft policy for council consideration. We are seeking feedback on the broad level of support the public feels towards this undertaking.

The gym is getting NEW equipment! To facilitate this upgrade and installation of the new strength equipment the gym section of the centre will be closed to the public from 7.30am - 3.30pm on Friday, 17 January 2020.
